Synopsis
A wealthy couple, Jeanne and Paul, lost their young son when the Tsunami engulfed Phuket in 2004. The body was never recovered. The couple have chosen to stay and work out of Thailand. They actively support programmes to help homeless children, and while watching a video of children filmed in Burma, Jeanne recognises their son and is sure that he has been a victim of human trafficking. Paul is sceptical but they enter Burma illegally to look for their son. The trip quickly turns into a nightmare, where reality and the supernatural blur, and where Jeanne begins a slow descent into madness.
FABRICE DU WELZ
Fabrice du Welz (born in 1972) was already hardcore horror fan before studying drama at the Liège Conservatory and directing at the INSAS. While making his own short films with his usual team, including Benoir Debie, his cinematographer, he worked as a gag writer for Canal Plus (“La Grande Famille”, “Nulle Part Ailleurs”, etc.). After the short Quand on est amoureux, c'est merveilleux, Welz directed his first feature film, Calvaire, screened at the 2004 Cannes International film Festival in the Critics Week category. Vinyan is his second feature film.
